Ferndale Youth Assistance-Program Volunteer Opportunities

The mission of Ferndale Youth Assistance is to strengthen youth and families and prevent and reduce delinquency, neglect, and abuse through volunteer involvement.

Annual Meeting - A once a year event held to recognize volunteers and local business that support Ferndale Youth Assistance throughout the year. If you are interested in volunteering please contact: Ken Seawell at kseawell@seawell-solutions.com

Youth Recognition - A formal banquet that honors our area youth for their community service and volunteerism. Teachers, parents, neighbors, local churches and businesses nominate students for this honor.  We recognize the youth by hosting a special evening, which includes dinner, entertainment and awards by local dignitaries. If you are interested in volunteering please contact: Jackie Stroker at (248) 586-8652 or jstroker@ferndaleschools.org

Family Education - A committee that develops and implements educational programs related to understanding child development and enhancing parenting and communication skills. If you are interested in volunteering for this committee please contact Dawn Warren at (248) 586-8830 or dwarren@ferndaleschools.org

Student Enrichment (Skill Building) - This committee provides funding for students to participate in skill building and enrichment opportunities in the community (i.e. swim classes, karate, dance classes, Boys & Girls Club memberships). If you are interested in volunteering for this committee please contact Heather Coleman at (248) 586-4882.

Camp - This committee provides children within the Ferndale School District the opportunity to attend various summer camps. Camps include: Heroes Camp through Camp Copneconic, Camp Skyline and day camps through Oakland County Parks and Recreation. If you are interested in volunteering with this committee please contact Dianna Smith at Dianna.Smith@globalcrossing.com

Youth Involvement -  It is very important for youth to get involved in their own community, and this committee coordinates efforts with community organizations and the school district to make this happen. Currently the Youth Involvement committee plans two Safe Night events for our middle school and high school students. Safe Night provides students with a safe and drug free environment while giving them a night filled with entertainment, food and fun. Our volunteers work collaboratively with the youth in the middle school and high school to plan and implement the events. If you are interested in volunteering please contact Chris Dewan at se_oakland_coalition@comcast.net

Fundraising Events  -  Ferndale Youth Assistance is supported by various fundraising events throughout the year. Our main events include a Bowl-A-Thon, the Blues Festival, and a Family Picnic/Softball Tournament. Volunteers are critical to work the events to ensure that the fundraisers are successful. All of the profits from the fundraisers benefit our camp, skillbuilding and youth involvement programs. If you are interested in helping out on any of our fundraising committees please contact our main office at (248) 586-8700.

Mentor's Plus -  We also have a mentoring program that matches adult volunteers with students in our school district.  The Mentor's Plus program provides a positive adult role model to a youth who needs support in their life.  Mentors meet one on one with a young person in our community.  They meet with their youth once a week for a minimum of one year.  If you are interested in making a difference in a child's life please contact our main office at (248) 586-8700.

The Mentor's Plus. committee meets on a regular basis to provide support for the mentors and children they are mentoring. The volunteers on this committee plan activities and events for all the participants of the program.  Volunteers assist the caseworker with the selection process, assist in the interviewing process and facilitate the matches. If you are interested in serving on this committee, please contact Donna Pearlman at Dpearl1234@aol.com
